The start of the Wedding Invites

For my wedding, I wanted to make a more traditional style of invite, making them from scratch and relief printing an image onto the paper. Since in many ways this is an extension of my art practice, I’ll share what I’m doing. So I’ve only just cut the paper, which is just a form of handmade paper, and have cut out the image on the lino, ready for printing!

GOMA and Art Gallery visit

On Friday I went to GOMA (Gallery of Modern Art) to look at artworks for my theory class for tafe. Man, they have some pretty trippy stuff there! A breathing, making noise, ugly bone alien thing. Some crazy globes that have a black liquid of some kind which moves inside it, and I’m sure that the gobes are not connected to anything, although the info on the wall says something about nanotechnology.

They have this one room which have three pillars of TVs which work on sensors, and each makes different noises (or what the plaque says is ‘music’) and colours and patterns, maybe it’s because some of the background noises that you hear when you first walk into that spacey, electronic area, but as soon as I saw it I was stuck against the walk, so scared of this room, and didnt want to take a step towards it until somebody else went in. At least after that I went to the next room, which was a ‘dream’ like room. The artist must’ve used a kaleidoscope and repeated the image from it over and over again so it filled up 3 panels, each 4m long. The image was also shown in black and white with calming music being played, and I really did feel like I was in a ‘dream state’, so calmed and peaceful.

After GOMA on the way back to Tafe I decided to check out QAG (Queensland Art Gallery), and Oh My Gosh the European Art to 1990s are absolutely breathtaking! I was blown away by the art, which is the first I can say that I have felt like that about art. Maybe it was because of how old these artworks are or seeing those first few christianity peices or just how realistic  the images were, but they were so beautiful!

Burleigh Heads Mountain!

After the Reptile Expo we went to chill at Burleigh Heads in the Gold Coast! It is such a beautiful place, even if it is a bit city like. It’s the place where I met my fiance and where he proposed. This time I took some place of the walk on the mountain, just to show you how amazing it is. Although photos can’t show everything, so I suggest that you should take a roadtrip and go there yourself 😀

Reptile Expo

So yesterday Jesse, some mates and me want to the Reptile Expo at the Gold Coast, because Jesse (my fiance) loves reptiles, and have a few of his own. Jesse took some photos so I figured that I’ld put them up.

One of the exhibits was the Stein Enclosures (http://steinenclosures.com.au/) which are absolutely amazingly made

Then of course there were so many different reptiles on display, including someones pet Lace Monitor!

And many different snakes, crocs and lizards, here are just a few images:

Supernatural; Demons in Real Life

So My Fiance has been trying to get me to watch the popular TV Show Supernatural, after much persisting I finally watched the first 2 0r 3 episodes, and have refused to watch anymore since. Why? Yeah it does have a pretty good story line, but this whole thing with “Supernatural stuff”, doesn’t sit very well with me, maybe it’s because when I was younger I used to have night-terrors, and the things that used to come into my dreams were quite horrific and I hadn’t even been introduced into anything “bad”, but then I was thinking more on why Supernatural affected me so much and realized that hey I’m a christian, I believe in God and angels, therefore I believe in Satan and all his demons, and realized that some (not all) of the strange things that are in Supernatural could very possibly be real! I know that it shouldn’t still get to me, cause of the power of God, but still pretty crazy to think about.

Churches and Tithing

So this morning I visited Sunnybank District Baptist Church, (which is an incredible friendly and welcoming church! As soon as the service was finished we were swarmed by 3 very welcoming people, trying to get to know us and what not, it was great), and the sermon was about giving and tithing, and the importance to tithe (which is to give 10% of your earnings to the church). And this topic is very hard to hear, some people when they hear this would probably think, ‘oh they’re just a money making business trying to take our own money for their personal gain’, and can put out someone immediatly. The pastor did agree that some of the money does go to the pastors, but that is their only income, in some cases. It’s us paying them for the work they do, weather that work is teaching/preaching, youth working, family guidance, care work, small groups/life groups/bible groups, etc. Also the money goes to different causes as well, I was looking in their bulletin and it shows that they support missionary work, and missionary work mainly finances through the giving of the church. I would’ve asked the pastor what other organisations they give to, but I was getting introduced to so many people, that I didn’t get time.

But there are also other ways to give or tithe. What I do and what my family does, is we give some of our tithes to other organisations. And there are so many good ones out there to give to, that includes, Compassion, Destiny Child, Mission Australia, New Tribe Missions, Baptist World Aid, Scripture Union, or maybe’s there’s one in your own area.

Hearing things like giving away your money is really hard to hear, but sometimes it’s a good little wake up call, which is what I find, it’s saying, ‘hey, you know what? look around you, you have so much STUFF! You have a roof over your head, food in the pantry, a place to rest, maybe a job for some, family and/or friends, why not just give 10%! of that to help someone else who doesn’t have these things.’

A good statement that the pastor was trying to put across is that , maybe you personally can’t give 10%, (like me at the moment, only having enough for rent, food, petrol (to get to work and back), go card money (to get to tafe and back), and savings so I can pay my rego for my car which is coming up (so I have a car to drive to get food and go to work), and save for my upcoming wedding, etc. But yet I always seem to find enough money to buy junkfood, which isn’t good for me, go to the movies and small little things that just take up room and mean nuthing.) But to ask yourself, and I will ask myself, is ‘What is the MOST I can give? What am I spending money on that doesn’t necessarily benefit me in the long run, which I could give to someone who is barely scrapping by?’ And maybe just work from there..

So this is my f…

So this is my first blog post! Which I have to do as part of my Visual Arts course, which I’m pretty happy that we have to do this. A little bit exciting to really branch myself out. Although I guess you’re wondering ‘Flight of the Kettle? What’s with that?’, well I conjured this name up with the help of my nana, as a branding name for my art, in response to my logo, which will be appearing within the next week or so. But Kettle is my last name, and I’m very proud of being a Kettle. But this title, for me, kinda present my continous journey as an artist, well to me anyways.

Well should be posting more up within the next week, so stay tuned!
