GOMA and Art Gallery visit

On Friday I went to GOMA (Gallery of Modern Art) to look at artworks for my theory class for tafe. Man, they have some pretty trippy stuff there! A breathing, making noise, ugly bone alien thing. Some crazy globes that have a black liquid of some kind which moves inside it, and I’m sure that the gobes are not connected to anything, although the info on the wall says something about nanotechnology.

They have this one room which have three pillars of TVs which work on sensors, and each makes different noises (or what the plaque says is ‘music’) and colours and patterns, maybe it’s because some of the background noises that you hear when you first walk into that spacey, electronic area, but as soon as I saw it I was stuck against the walk, so scared of this room, and didnt want to take a step towards it until somebody else went in. At least after that I went to the next room, which was a ‘dream’ like room. The artist must’ve used a kaleidoscope and repeated the image from it over and over again so it filled up 3 panels, each 4m long. The image was also shown in black and white with calming music being played, and I really did feel like I was in a ‘dream state’, so calmed and peaceful.

After GOMA on the way back to Tafe I decided to check out QAG (Queensland Art Gallery), and Oh My Gosh the European Art to 1990s are absolutely breathtaking! I was blown away by the art, which is the first I can say that I have felt like that about art. Maybe it was because of how old these artworks are or seeing those first few christianity peices or just how realistic  the images were, but they were so beautiful!
